Show

Someone sends you a file and nothing on your computer will open it. Drop it on Filestar and look at it right there, with no extra program to find and install.

Show a file in two steps

  1. Drop the file on Filestar.
  2. Type show and pick the suggestion.

The file opens in Filestar's viewer. "Open", "view", "see", "display" and "preview" work too, so type whichever word comes to mind.

What can be shown

More than a thousand file types. These open as they are:

  • Images: JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, BMP, ICO and SVG
  • Video and audio: MP4, WebM, MP3, WAV, FLAC and more
  • Documents: PDF
  • 3D models: GLB, glTF, STL and OBJ
  • Fonts, with sample text, every character and the font's details
  • Embroidery files, such as PES and DST, as the finished design and stitch by stitch
  • DICOM medical images, with window and level, and playback for loops

Any other type is first converted in the background, then shown as what it became: a Word document as a PDF, a Photoshop file as an image. Try show HEIC, show PSD or show STL.

Your file stays as it is

Showing a file never changes the original. A converted copy is only made for the viewer, so there is nothing to clean up next to your file.

Good to know

  • It needs Filestar 30.3 or later. Get the latest version.
  • A few videos may not play. The viewer uses your system's video support, and if it lacks a format, the viewer tells you. Convert the video to get a version that plays.
