Filestar for AI Agents

Your agent can't open a .dwg. With Filestar it can: Claude, Cursor, Codex and every MCP agent get CAD drawings, 3D models, embroidery, camera RAW, video, and documents from programs nobody has run since the nineties. It runs on your computer, so your files stay there.

Every route pins the current release and fetches the Filestar command line from npm, once.

[email protected]

Paste this in your terminal:

claude mcp add filestar -- npx -y [email protected] mcp

Or the Claude Code plugin (the Filestar skill and the MCP server):

/plugin marketplace add filestar/filestar-agent
/plugin install filestar@filestar

One click opens Cursor and adds the server:

Add to Cursor

One click opens VS Code (Copilot agent mode) and installs it:

Install in VS Code

Download the extension and double-click it:

Claude Desktop (.mcpb)

Install the command line. It finds your agents and sets each one up:

npm install -g filestar
filestarcli agent install

Or add it in one click:

Ten converters, or one server.

Without Filestar, an agent that meets these files has to find, install and learn a different tool for each. Most of them don't run headless, and some don't exist for your operating system.

Each of these is one prompt. Your agent picks the skill, runs it on your computer and tells you where the files are.

Local by default

A local skill reads and writes the files there, and nothing about their contents is sent anywhere. Most skills, the common conversions among them, are local.

No cloud through MCP unless you agree

Through the MCP server, cloud defaults to Disallowed and export skills such as HTTP post and email are never available.

What Filestar receives

A licence check and run counts: which skill, the file types, how many files and how large, and whether it worked. Never the contents of a file for a local skill.

How Filestar handles your files with AI agents

50 conversions free. Then a plan.

No account and no card for the first 50 local conversions on a computer, one file per run. For batches, cloud skills or more runs, your agent shows you a link to a plan and stops. It never buys anything.

Questions

Can Claude open DWG, STEP or JT files?

Not on its own. With Filestar's MCP server it converts them on your computer to PDF, glTF or images it can read.

Is Filestar an MCP server or a command line?

Both. filestarcli is the command line, and filestarcli mcp runs the same tools as an MCP server over stdio.

Does it upload my files?

Not for local skills, which are most of them. Cloud skills need your agreement and are off through MCP.

What does it cost?

50 local conversions are free on each computer, with no account. After that you need a Filestar plan: see Pricing.

Which operating systems does it run on?

Windows, macOS (Intel and Apple silicon) and Linux x64.
