The OpenDocument Text Document format (ODT) is a word processing document subtype in the ODF family used on editable texts. It holds objects, texts, images, and styles. The ODT design suits word-processing applications. It was named ODT after the file extension used the .odt.
Though not the same, the file format closely resembles the DOCX file formats used with Microsoft Word. They are built based on the OpenOffice writer program. The .odt file formats do not need any further compression. The files are generally at a higher resolution at the end. Most documents by writers take the .odt format.
Some ODT files may be Origin Dialog Theme files used with the Origin data analysis and graphic software. With such files, the use of the XML-file formatting can change dialog windows' appearance.
Doxillion, Abisource AbiWord are among the free document editors used on the data. They are stored using either XML or a ZIP container. By use of FODT file extension, these files can be created without using an editor.
