The XLSX file is an open XML spreadsheet file format created by Microsoft Excel version 2007. Worksheets store the data in Excel spreadsheet files, and workbooks hold the worksheets. The standard format was developed upon demand by business people to have a format that would support organizing, analyzing, and transfer of data between various applications or areas of work.
It is the modern updated version of the Excel file (XSL). It’s one of the most popular data processing software thanks to its ability to extract and visualize important information from large data sets.
Rows and columns characterize the spreadsheet cells, which have styles, math functions, and formatting, among other features. The spreadsheet files that support the macros function are saved as XLSM. The file format stores documents using zip compression technology. Also, they occupy little storage space besides reduced bandwidth in transferring the files online.
The file format can be opened in Google Docs, Apple Numbers, and Open Office. Microsoft excel 2007 and the latest versions open, edit and save the XLSX files. Zoho docs, Google Sheets, and Microsoft Excel Online applications are capable f not only opening but also editing and saving the XLSX files. The Chrome web browser also supports the editing of the XLSX files.
