- An XPT file is a SAS dataset in the XPORT transport format, the format regulators such as the US FDA ask clinical trial data to be submitted in.
- A Parquet file is a columnar data table: each column is stored on its own, compressed and typed, so analytics tools can read only the columns they need. It is the common exchange format of data lakes, Spark, pandas and DuckDB.
