StuffIt X Archive (.sitx) is a compressed archive format introduced in 2002 as the successor to the classic StuffIt (.sit) format. It offers stronger compression than the original format and adds encryption, error correction, and self-checking features, while preserving Mac-specific data such as resource forks. It has been widely used on classic Mac OS and macOS for bundling and distributing files.
It is a file-based disk image format created by Microsoft for its latest Windows OS releases, Windows Server 2008 and the Windows Vista. Windows Imaging Format (wim), is used for the standard installation method of the OS.
