- Description
- id RoQ is a proprietary video (and audio) container format developed for use in video games. It uses a custom codec combining vector quantization for video and a simple compression scheme for audio, designed for fast decoding on limited hardware. It was used in several id Software games such as Quake III Arena and Return to Castle Wolfenstein to play full-motion video cutscenes.
- Popular video format standardized by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG); compressed using MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 compression; often used for creating movies that are distributed over the Internet.
