- Description
- id RoQ is a proprietary video (and audio) container format developed for use in video games. It uses a custom codec combining vector quantization for video and a simple compression scheme for audio, designed for fast decoding on limited hardware. It was used in several id Software games such as Quake III Arena and Return to Castle Wolfenstein to play full-motion video cutscenes.
- Audio format that uses MPEG-1 Layer II compression to reduce the file size; mainly replaced by the ubiquitous .MP3 format, but is still used for digital radio and digital television broadcasts.
