- The Mac Paint file type, identified by the extension ".mpnt," originates from MacPaint, one of the first painting applications developed for the Apple Macintosh computer in the mid-1980s. It stores black-and-white bitmap graphics created with MacPaint, which was known for its user-friendly interface and pioneering use of the graphical user interface. Despite its age and the discontinuation of MacPaint, the mpnt file type represents a piece of digital art and computing history. However, modern software support for this format is limited, primarily due to its association with older, 1-bit graphical designs.
