- MPL2 is a plain-text subtitle format from the MPlayer project. Each line holds a caption as [start][end]text, with times in tenths of a second and | between lines of text.
- Timed Text Markup Language (TTML) is an XML-based subtitle and caption format standardised by the W3C. It stores the text of each caption together with its timing, position and styling, and is used for broadcast, streaming and online video.
