- A MAT-file holds the variables saved from a MATLAB session: numeric arrays such as matrices and images, text, cell arrays and structs. Files saved with -v7.3 are HDF5 files behind a MATLAB header. Unity and Unreal material files use the .mat extension too, but they are a different format.
- This is the display format associated with the broadcast of slow-scan television. This legacy format was used to transmit a static image given limited bandwidth through the use of specialized software.
