Description
The .fon format is a Windows font resource file that stores bitmap (raster) fonts or acts as a container referencing font data for use by older Windows applications. It is commonly used for legacy screen fonts, especially fixed-size bitmap fonts used in older Windows GUI elements and MS-DOS era applications. Modern Windows systems retain support for .fon files mainly for backward compatibility with legacy software.
Type42 was based on the PostScript language for displaying TrueType fonts. It allows for printing all TrueType fonts on PostScript printers and allows for rasterization when displayed.
