- Description
- The bw file type is associated with Silicon Graphics RGB, a bitmap image format developed by Silicon Graphics, Inc. (SGI). It is specifically designed for grayscale images, utilizing a single channel to represent varying shades of black and white. The format is known for its use in graphics and visualization applications, especially in environments where Silicon Graphics workstations were prevalent. BW files are capable of storing high-quality images with efficient compression, making them suitable for both professional graphics work and scientific visualization.
- Compressed raster image format developed by Microsoft; similar to the .JPG format, but uses a higher degree of compression and supports both lossy and lossless compression; used primarily for high-resolution digital photographs; can be used with several Microsoft products including Windows Photo Viewer, Windows Live Movie Maker (WLMM), and Microsoft Word.
