SubStation Alpha (ASS) is a text-based file format used for subtitle files. It is mostly used for anime, but can be used for any type of video. It is a plain-text format and can be opened with any text editor, such as Notepad. It allows for the creation of more complex subtitles than plain text, such as color-coding, formatting, and timing.
MPL2 is a plain-text subtitle format from the MPlayer project. Each line holds a caption as [start][end]text, with times in tenths of a second and | between lines of text.
