- An Arrow IPC file holds a data table in Apache Arrow's in-memory columnar layout, so it can be memory-mapped and read without conversion. Feather version 2 files are the same format.
- A Parquet file is a columnar data table: each column is stored on its own, compressed and typed, so analytics tools can read only the columns they need. It is the common exchange format of data lakes, Spark, pandas and DuckDB.
