PowerPoint Open XML (PPTX) is a presentation format by Microsoft Office. Microsofte introduced PPTX file format to compete with ODF by Open Office. The files stores information in the form of slide show presentations. The slides comprise of animations, objects, texts, music, and formatting. Classrooms, business meetings, and marketing organizations mostly use the PPTX application for presentations.
The introduction of the PPTX was as a replacement to the initially used PPT file format.Compressing the PPTX files requires the use of XML and ZIP. PowerPoint 2007 and newer version of the same use PPTX file as a default format. Initially, Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 and prior versions used the old file format PPT.
The file format is closely related to the PPSX format type. The only difference between the two files been that the PPTX opens files to editors mode, unlike the PPSX format. You can also import PPTX files online for editing. Google Slides allows you to upload your PowerPoint presentation, edit it, and download it to your computer or save it on Google Drive.
Programs like Apache and Open Office can read PowerPoint Slides using Microsoft Open Office XML format. Microsoft launched the Open Office XML format with Microsoft 2007. Apple Keynote can also open PPTX files.
