EPDF blocks can hold links to other blocks that can be converted to ordinary PDF links for a particular layout. The blocks are stored as distinct objects in a way that they can be extracted and used in other documents. It can only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
Although each EPDF block is viewed as a structural element, no statement defines the arrangement of the structures. This file format contains several pages, each with its imaginable contents referenced under its contents key, just like an ordinary PDF file. EPDF files are often scanned with Google’s virustotal.com to ensure they are neither corrupted nor virus-infected.
Distiller or PDFWriter writes EPDF files. However, some details need to be added later using separate programs. Juggler application also opens and formats EPDF files. They enable block-based reformatting of PDF documents using visual splitting of blocks across pages and columns.
