Zstandard ist ein schneller Komprimierungsalgorithmus mit hohen Komprimierungsraten. Er bietet außerdem einen speziellen Modus für kleine Datenmengen, die sogenannte Wörterbuchkomprimierung. Die Referenzbibliothek bietet einen sehr breiten Spielraum für die Abwägung zwischen Geschwindigkeit und Komprimierung und wird durch einen extrem schnellen Decoder ergänzt (siehe Benchmarks unten). Die Zstandard-Bibliothek wird als Open-Source-Software unter einer BSD-Lizenz bereitgestellt. Ihr Format ist stabil und als IETF RFC 8478 veröffentlicht.
