- A MAT-file holds the variables saved from a MATLAB session: numeric arrays such as matrices and images, text, cell arrays and structs. Files saved with -v7.3 are HDF5 files behind a MATLAB header. Unity and Unreal material files use the .mat extension too, but they are a different format.
- It is a Motion JPEG that captures sequence images in a multimedia format — commonly used on digital cameras and webcams. It is a large file size that can be easily edited because of its low compression levels.
