Description
A MAT-file holds the variables saved from a MATLAB session: numeric arrays such as matrices and images, text, cell arrays and structs. Files saved with -v7.3 are HDF5 files behind a MATLAB header. Unity and Unreal material files use the .mat extension too, but they are a different format.
Commonly used by web browsers like Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer to show format text and images in an HTML web page. In plain text format, they contain markup code.
