How to create animated WebP from video
It’s safe to say that Google’s modern image format for the web, WebP, is here to stay. We at Filestar wrote an article about the image format in 2019 and a lot has happened since then. The format is now supported by all modern browsers while increasing in popularity. Css-Tricks has written a great post on how to use WebP on the web with support for older browsers.
We recently added support for conversions from all common video formats (such as mp4, mkv, avi and WebM) to animated WebP. The format is well suited for animations from real life footage since it supports a high color depth in addition to small file sizes. Gif lacks in comparison.
Simply type in “convert to webp” in Filestar after selecting a file to get started. The animation below (a WebP image of course!) shows the process.
