- The PST file (Outlook Personal Storage File) is a proprietary file format used by Microsoft Outlook to store copies of messages, calendar events, and other items within Microsoft software such as Microsoft Exchange Client, Windows Messaging, and Microsoft Outlook. The PST file acts as a local archive, allowing users to manage their email data offline, organize their email inbox, and back up important correspondence, contacts, and calendar appointments. It can be password protected for added security.
