Psion 8-bit A-law (WVE) is a file extension developed by Psion, a British company. It is associated with handheld computers and stores audio-data in Psion-8-bit-A-law audio. The audio format is used on Psion series 3 PDA devices.
The WVE files are usually compressed, leading to loss of the quality of the files. The quality margin loss is however, too minimal and is even not noticed by a regular user of the files. The compressed files are smaller than the original file size.
The file supports audio tracks, sound effects, and transitions. The WVE also allows the saving of uncompleted tasks or projects for later completion. It uses .wve extension. The format is deprecated in SOX though it is still used in libsndfile. The projects in WVE files can be formatted for use on various mobile devices or even for uploading on YouTube.
The WVE projects don’t save audio files in the .wve file but on referenced files. For this reason, copying of projects requires you to copy the referenced files as well.
