Word Perfect Graphics (WPG), owned by the Corel, is a vector graphic file that stores both bitmap and vector data. It comprises of 256 colors, chosen from a pallet of more than a million colors.
The application dominated the word processing market when it was first released, taking the place of WordStar. The file format lost its popularity when it delayed in improving its version, and Microsoft Word was released at the same time. This led to WPG changing its ownership from the developers to Novell and later to Corel in 1996.
The file format commonly uses the .wpg extension. It uses several key combinations that enable users to access the desired features easily. WPG supports both backward and forward compatibility in its functionality. It combines most function keys like Control key, Shift key, and Alt key. The files usually hold complex data that has a header and the recording area. The files, however, are not encrypted, and the features of the objects are included in the files.
Applications like PaintShop Pro, and CorelDRAW graphics suite, ACD Systems Canvas 14, support the WPG file format. Free programs like Inkscape and Perfect spot, among other programs, can also open the files.
