Video Transport Stream File (TS) is a Digital container format that transmits and stores Program and System Information Protocol (PSIP) data, video, and digital audio. Broadcasts systems like Digital Video Broadcasting, IPTV, and ATSC broadcast systems use the TS file format.
TS container format has a packetized elementary stream, made up of error detection and correction, and also synchronization pattern features. The features play a role in maintaining transmission integrity when the communication channel is considered degraded.
The program streams in the TS format have a little reliability transmission rate compared to that of the MPEG program stream, which is designed for reliable transmission. TS uses Terrestrial or Satellite broadcast, and it can carry many programs at a go.
The TS is made up of numerous sub-streams that wrap the primary data stream using the MPEG codec or several non-MPEG codecs. The packaged data comprises of texts, pictures, subtitles, tables, and broadcaster specific-information like Electronic program guide. Unlike other conventional containers, the TS streams are interleaved together, reducing the chances of error and decreasing the latency rates. This results in the tiny packet sizes of the files.
TS file to be mostly used in videoconferencing as large frames may lead to unacceptable audio delays. Blu ray Disc video files, Apple DVD Player, VLC Media Player, and Corel Video Studio Pro programs support the TS file format.
