- Description
- An NRW file is a raw image file produced by high-end Nikon COOLPIX and digital SLR cameras. It saves image data in an uncompressed format that can be processed on the camera or on a computer after the image is captured. NRF files are similar to .NEF files, but are designed to support Windows Imaging Component (WIC) functions.

Nikon's raw image file( NRW) is a raw camera file developed by Nikon. Cameras used to produce it are like the Nikon Coolpix and digital SLR cameras. The newer Nikon camera models use the NEF format but the older ones use the NRW format. NRW images are saved as 12-bit RAW uncompressed data which has many times the tonal range of 8-bit images, this allows for finer adjustment of color and improved detail in highlight and shadow areas. In addition, they have a much better tonal range than their compressed counterparts. The only catch with using the NRW file format is its large file size. Fortunately, modern memory cards are large and relatively affordable, so this isn’t a big deal like it used to be. NRW files can support the Windows Imaging Components(WIC). The files give you very high-quality images. Data stored here is never lost as the changes or editing are made to the images after being saved on the computer. The user can easily go back to the image and undo the changes, attaining the original image. File viewer, Nikon view, adobe photoshop 2020, Adobe photoshop express for android, and file viewer are some of the programs that open the NRW files.
