The Lightwave Object (.lwo) file format is the standard format used in Lightwave 3D and Modo applications. These are programs used for 3D modeling, animation, and rendering. The files contain data on points, polygons, and surfaces that describe the object's shape and appearance. They may also store references to image files used for object textures.
They are popularly used in motion graphics, video development, visual effects, product design, and architectural visualizations.
The import or export scripts and plugins determine if other applications can support these files. But in most cases, the files can’t be edited outside of the 3D applications that support them i.e. you can’t use Notepad to edit.
On Windows PC and MAC, you can open the files using Lightwave Modeller, Foundry Modo, Bondware Poser, PMG messiahStudio, and MicroMouse AccuTrans 3D. Only Foundry Modo can open the files on Linux OS.
