JPEG File Interchange Format (JFIF) is a bitmap graphic file that uses JPEG compression. The design of this file format allows the least possible amount of data to be exchanged between various applications and platforms. The JFIF files are made up of compressed JPEG files. And they are given the .jfif extension. They are popularly used during the first stages of digital image rendering and creation.
Its primary purpose is to create digital images and archiving JPEG images in their compressed forms. It was made to solve some of the shortcomings of the initially used JIF. It solved problems like complexity, sample registration, resolution, color space, and aspect ratio. The file format has, however, proven to be incompatible with the Exchangeable Image File Format (EXIF).
The file format gives more details that are not specified in the JPEG part 1. The format is made up of sequence markers or markers segments. The latest models of JPEG files have overtaken it. Various components in this file get their resolutions, although the arrays of these components remain undefined.
