All about the CDR File Format
The CDR file format is the default extension created by CorelDRAW software. Almost all designers have created it and used it. Making it a big deal in the designer world.
CorelDraw is graphic design software for vector illustrations. Designers use it to make logos, posters, and brochures and the tools are very basic to understand. Generally, digital graphics have a specific type of file encoding and that is why it can only be opened by particular applications.
If you see a .cdr file format, it means it was created by the CorelDRAW application and can be opened by the CorelDRAW graphics suite. The application is also supported on all Windows versions including Windows 7, XP, 8, and 10.
Note: There are a few other instances where a .cdr file extension may be used. For example, Macintosh DVD/CD main files and raw audio CD data also use CDR file format. They are mostly used for burning the data into a disc or vice versa in the latter.
How to open a CDR file format
CorelDRAW is the best app to open and edit CDR files. To open, create a new document with the desired canvas and import it by going through File > Import. You can then edit the illustration as you would like and save it.
If you don’t have CorelDRAW and want to open the file anyway, don’t worry because there are a few programs available.
Free CDR Viewer is similar software that you can download. Run it and then you can select the desired CDR file. The software can support the latest CorelDRAW applications as well. The interface is simple for its users and you can also view multiple page projects on it.
On Linux and Mac, you can easily open CDR files using Inkscape as well. Inkscape is a free graphic application just like CorelDRAW.
Note: It’s best not to be witty by renaming the file extension to something else because that’s not going to happen. Only special software like Filestar can convert the file type to another.
How to view CDR file in Photoshop
Since Adobe Photoshop is highly popular among graphic designers, you may need to use Photoshop for editing CDR files too. To achieve this, you’ll have to convert your CDR file to a Photoshop friendly format.
Photoshop can work with JPG, PNG, PDF, PSD, TIFF, and BMP.
A good converter ensures your drawing retains the same quality and contents as in the original file. This is the number one fear faced when using converting software. It’s not only annoying but frustrating to have a file that you barely recognize as the same one you converted.
But you can trust Filestar to maintain the quality of your file.
